OLW Blog Hop- What Happened to Action?

In my last post I said I was going to post daily.  My goal was to highlight something that happened each day that brought me joy.  What happened? Why didn't I do it?  I don't know.  I always have great intentions.

But are my intentions too big?  Do they paralyze me?  Isn't something better than nothing?

I am the type of person who wants to get from point A to point Z without any detours.  I want the end result.  I want the outcome without the journey.  I know this about myself.  I know this is my stumbling block.  Yet, I don't know how to change it.

Actually.  I do.

I know that I should create small goals.

I know that I should do something, rather than nothing.

I know that only I can change this.

So, although I made my nice pretty pages for the month of March and wrote down my actions steps, I didn't follow through.  Yes, we celebrated birthdays, but that isn't anything out of the ordinary.  No,  we never had family night.  I can make excuses and remember why it didn't actually happen, but they are just excuses.

This blog started as a way to "notice" the small things that brought me joy.  Yet, I find myself writing about the things that bother me.  The things that don't bring me joy.  You should see the list of "drafts" under my posts.  They are often raw with emotion and thought, but I don't post them.  Posting them would make them even more real and I don't want them to be my reality anymore.

Hop along to
Jan athttp://mysimplelittlelife.typepad.com/ and read about her journey this month.

If you get lost along the hop, feel free to stop back here and find your way!

  2. Sometimes it take awhile to find that one thing that makes everything click. Don't give up and keep making those goals!

  3. I can so relate to setting goals and then wanting to GET THERE without all the "work" in between. I truly believe that realization is the first step to change - so you're on your way. Your work looks great. Keep it up! And enjoy! :)

  4. love your honesty.
i think we women are always setting too high goals that do not fit the reality of life.
goals are important, don't get me wrong.
there is always a journey, whether it is to OUR goal or not.
keep seeking joy no matter the circumstances around you.

  5. I'm always optimistic vs. realistic with what I can get done in an hour, in a day, etc.. It's really hard to gauge. But I am learning to enjoy the process more and not focus so much on the endpoint, that way it matters less if I gauge my time wrong. It's also important to find joy in the process as well as the endpoint. Life is about the journey, right? Not just the destination :)

  7. Oh man, can I relate to what you're saying. I'm the same way....if I can't do it all now, I can't do it. Period. Trying to retrain myself but it's hard, isn't it? Keep going...there usually is progress when you least expect it.

  9. Agree with others about women and their high goals! We put ourselves through so much!! Hope April finds you setting a smaller goal and achieving it for one small success that will build upon another.

  10. Awwww...you are fine, just the way you are. I'm sure many, many wonderful things happened to you this month. Please don't let the goals of this class cause you sadness or make you beat yourself up about it. We are all here supporting you (virtually). How about just one family night next month, just one. Just one time of singing in the car together, just one time of looking into each other's eyes and enjoying that magical moment. Much love from Oklahoma to you. Be gentle with yourself.

  11. We always plan to do so much and then beat ourselves up when we don't follow through. You have made beautiful pages and you have lovely handwriting.

  12. I don't think my comment posted. Sorry if this is duplicate.

Sharing your thoughts and emotions like this is a step in the right direction to being where you want to be. It took me a long time to realize how important it is to enjoy the journey. Don't be too hard on yourself.

  13. I'm sorry you can't follow through on your action this month. I can relate to having to have small goals. Don't be too hard on yourself. Take little steps. You can do it!

  14. sometimes our best intentions just don't pan out. And sometimes there isn't a good reason. Things will happen when you are ready for them to.

  15. Hi, I'm so glad you posted even though you didn't complete your action. It is all part of life's journey as so many others have said. And your pages do look wonderful! I didn't make my pages pretty at all this month, so you are ahead of me there. I think this part of parenthood is challenging. We may have different life challenges but I know the older my kids get, the less capable as a parent I feel. And I echo the others - be gentle on yourself. Thanks again for participating in the blog hop! Sorry I'm late to the party this time.

  16. Your pages look great and I'm right with you in trying to put things into action. It's nice to know others are in the same place, we are not alone! Thanks for the inspiration

  17. "I am the type of person who wants to get from point A to point Z without any detours. I want the end result. I want the outcome without the journey."
--- I so know this feeling! And one thing that helps me move forward is to remember a fortune cookie I have taped to my desk: The only way to finish is to get started.

What if instead of choosing to experience joy on a specific day, you recorded the days this past month you remember feeling joy? Make it retrospective rather than pushing yourself to have accomplished something specific and then feeling bad that you didn't do it?

I like what Lisa A did with her word (the late addition to the hop) -- she didn't open the March prompt until the 31st and then wrote about how she had used her word in the past month. You could take that approach instead of feeling like you didn't actually take action this month.

And I agree with everyone else - your pages look great!!
